Garie Beach to North Era Beach

This walk is the shortest walk to North Era Beach and starts from the Garie car park. Both beaches are popular surfing beaches and have either camping or basic hostel accommodation. This makes the walk between the beaches an excellent way to transport boards and supplies to your surf retreat, weekend getaway or just a nice stroll during the day.




Please note: There are closed areas in Royal National Park

Garie Beach Alt = 4 m
Garie Beach, Royal National Park, is a large, south-east facing, yellow sand beach. The beach is backed by steep headlands and gullies. People can drive to the large carpark at the end of Garie Rd to access the beach. Garie Beach is a popular surfing beach, which is patrolled 9am-5pm from December to January. Facilities include toilets, kiosk, picnic tables, cold showers and Surf Life Saving Club. More info

Track: Moderate - bushtrack
Length = 754 m Time = 20 mins
Climb = 59 m Descent = -47 m
From the Garie Beach car park, the track follows the sign to 'North Era', keeping the sea on the left of the track. This track follows the base of the large grassy hill between the rocks and the ocean, to the Little Garie cabins and up past the Little Garie Community Hall.

(0.75 km) Little Garie to North Era Bush Campground
Track: Moderate - bushtrack
Length = 863 m Time = 23 mins
Climb = 62 m Descent = -74 m
From the community hall in Little Garie, the track heads steeply up the hill, following the bush track to the south-west. To prevent erosion of the hill, wooden steps have been installed. Once on the top of the ridge, the track continues down the other side, keeping the ocean on the left as it winds down into North Era Bush Campground.

North Era camping ground Alt = m
North Era camping ground, Royal National Park, is a large dune area situated directly behind North Era Beach. This camping spot is popular with surfers, and it also has a toilet and a cleared area to pitch your tent. A maximium of 60 people can camp here, so there is plenty of room for everyone.

Current Park Closure information for Royal National Park
Closure information last checked Sunday 5th of July 2009 12:00 AM

Closed areas

The Roads and Traffic Authority will be undertaking major road repair and resealing works within Royal National Park during  May 2009. The following full road closures will be in place Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm:

  • Sir Bertram Stevens Dr closed between Bundeena Dr and McKell Av: work will be undertaken from Friday 1 May to Friday 15 May, weather permitting.
  • Sir Bertram Stevens Dr closed between Warumbul Rd and Bundeena Dr: work is expected to be undertaken between 16 May and 13 June, weather permitting.

 

During closures traffic will be diverted to other detour routes to gain access to Garie Beach, Bundeena and Maianbar.
