Closed areas: Areas closed for feral animal control – Pilot and Byadbo Wilderness Areas, Lower Snowy area, Moonbah, Ingebyra, Grosses Plain, Kosciuszko National ParkThe NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting aerial feral animal control operations in the Pilot and Byadbo Wilderness Areas, the Lower Snowy area, and the Moonbah, Ingebyra and Grosses Plain areas of Kosciuszko National Park.
Areas will be closed between 7am, Monday 23 February and 7pm, Friday 7 March 2025. Control operations will not be undertaken on weekends.
Closure notices will be placed at relevant access points. Do not enter the closed areas.
Penalties apply for non-compliance.
The following tracks, trails and visitor facilities will remain
open during the operation:
- The Australian Alps Walking Track (AAWT), including Cowombat, Snow Gums, Pilot Creek and Cascade Trail
- Pilot Wilderness Mountain Bike Ride, including Cascade, Ingeegoodbee and Nine Mile Trails
- Cascade Hut
- Tin Mines Huts
- Ingeegoodbee Hut
- Lower Snowy Drive (Barry Way)
- Wallace Craigie Lookout
- Jacobs River/Tongaroo campground
- Halfway Flat campground
- No Name Day Use Area
- Pinch/Moyangul campground
- Nine Mile campground
- Jacks Lookout
- Running Waters campground
- Willis campground
All other tracks, trails and visitor facilties within these areas will remain closed during operations.

Other planned events: Fire trail maintenance work- Schlink PassEssential fire trail drainage maintenance, including culvert replacements will be occurring on Schlink Pass Road between the 10th February – 28th February 2025, between Guthega Power Station and Whites River Hut.
During this time, pedestrians access will be maintained but visitors are asked to follow the direction of Contractors and NPWS staff.
Other planned events: Fire trail maintenance work - Cascade TrailFire trail maintenance work is currently being undertaken on Cascade Trail between the Alpine Way and the Cowombat/Ingeegoodbee Trail intersection.
Notification signage is present at the entry to work areas. Trail users are to be aware of heavy plant movements and comply with all directions from contractors and NPWS staff.

Other incidents: Geehi Flats Campground Upgrade WorksFrom February to the end of May 2025, small areas of Geehi Flats campground will be subject to construction work to upgrade visitor facilities. The campground will remain open, although machinery will be operating in the campground during this time. Do not enter construction areas.

Other planned events: Notification of Ongoing 1080 Baiting - Wild Dogs/FoxesThe NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing baiting program from
Saturday 8 February 2025 to Thursday 7 August 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. This program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Baiting programs will take place across Kosciuszko National Park in Thredbo/Ingebyra, Dalgety/Paupong and Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah Wild Dog Plan Areas. Baiting programs will also be undertaken in Paupong, Merriangaah and Quidong Nature Reserves.
This includes the following sections of Kosciuszko National Park: Thredbo Valley, Moonbah, Ingebyra, Paupong, Numbla Vale and Corrowong.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Management Trail worksTrail maintenance works are being undertaken on management Trails east of Tantangara Road. Trails include Boundary Trail & Ash Gully Trail, Gavels Hut Trail and Schofields Trail. Take care when travelling in areas where heavy plant operating. Notification signage will be in place in areas of operation.
Works will not be undertaken over the Easter period.
Closed areas: Cascade Trail Carpark Closure Monday 3 February 2025 to Friday 21 March 2025Transport for NSW will be carrying out essential maintenance on the large culverts beneath the Alpine Way adjacent to the Cascade Trail carpark.
The Cascade Trail carpark will be closed for parking from Monday 3 February 2025 to Friday 21 March 2025 as workers and machinery will be occupying the area. Visitors accessing Cascade Trail are asked to use the Dead Horse Gap carpark and walk about 500m to reach the trailhead, following any signage.
During work hours, access to the walking track will be managed under traffic control for the safety of pedestrians, workers and motorists. Please follow the directions of workers and signage.

Other planned events: Road Works - Manjar Trail 20 & 21 January 2025Road works will be taking place on the Manjar - Blackjack Mountain Trail on Monday 20th January until Tuesday 21st January 2025. The trail will remain open although there may be minor delays.
Closed areas: Round Mountain Hut closed for reconstructionRound Mountain hut is closed until Friday 28 March 2025 while construction works are underway.
Machinery and vehicles will be in use between the Round Mountain track head and the hut site. There will be some noise during this time. Please follow all directions from NPWS staff and safety signage.
The toilet amenities remain open and are accessed via Farm Ridge trail.

Closed areas: Thredbo River picnic area toilet closedRecent severe winds have brought down a tree on the toilet block at Thredbo River picnic area. As a result the toilet block is closed and cannot be utilised. Please be aware that contractors will be working at the site and will have vehicles moving in and out of the area. Other facilities at the site are available.
Safety alerts: Guthega Road - changed speed limit due to ongoing road worksThe speed limit on Guthega Road has been reduced to 60km for the entirety of the road due to ongoing road works.
Please abide by all traffic control signage and observe all directions from NPWS staff and contractors.

Closed areas: Tantangara Reservoir partial closureSome parts of Tantangara Reservoir will be closed intermittently until further notice for Snowy 2.0 construction activities involving controlled blasts. Full exclusion zones will be established prior to and during blast operations. The closed areas are:
- Areas of Tantangara Reservoir adjacent to the Snowy 2.0 construction site.
- Tantangara Reservoir boat ramp, adjacent to the Tantangara Dam wall.

Safety alerts: Culvert works on Guthega road in Kosciuszko National Park.Culvert Cleaning works will commence on Thursday 10 October 2024, weather permitting. These works are expected to have minimal impact on the local community.
Intermittent delays should be expected in the area until mid-December. Completion dates are subject to weather and operational constraints.

Fire-affected areas
Some sections of Kosciuszko National Park which burnt during the 2019/2020 fires remain closed. These areas include:
- Wolgal and Pattinson's Huts
Huts that burnt down in the 2020 fires
These locations remain open, but the following huts or buildings have been lost:
- Linesman's No.3 Huts, Round Mountain Hut, and Dry Dam Ski Shelter.
- Warning: Please take care as there may be broken glass/nails that are uncovered since NPWS made records and cleaned up these sites. Please do not disturb the sites or remove artefacts.
Snowy 2.0 works affecting access to Tantangara Road and Tantangara Dam
- Access to the southern end of Tantangara Reservoir via Quarry trail is closed to the public.
- Access to the southern end boat ramp is open, but may be subject to short-term closures.
- Current boating and camping access to Tantangara Reservoir will still be available at access points on the northern end of the reservoir, via Port Phillip and Dam trails.
Do not enter closed areas in Kosciuszko National Park.

Other planned events: Notice of ongoing 1080 programA baiting program using meat baits and canid pest ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison will be conducted from Sunday 22 September 2024 to Saturday 22 March 2025 in Kosciuszko National Park.
The program will be conducted in the northern precinct of the park, which includes the following areas:
- Goobarragandra
- Blowering foreshores
- Big Talbingo/ Buddong
Entry into baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.
Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Other planned events: Tom Groggin campground - upgrade worksThe NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and contractors will be undertaking upgrade works at Tom Groggin campground throughout winter and spring 2024. These works will include additions to campground facilities and rehabilitation planting.

Safety alerts: Powerline out of service in Jagungal Wilderness AreaHappy Jacks Plain and sections of the Jagungal Wilderness Area are affected by powerline damage. The 11kva powerline that runs through these areas was damaged during the 2019/2020 fires with burnt poles and downed powerlines. It is out of service and will be removed from the park. Please keep a safe distance from any broken wires on the ground and broken stay wires from power poles.

Closed areas: Closed areas due to Snowy 2.0 worksThe following areas are closed due to the Snowy 2.0 works from Monday 25 February 2019 until early 2027, unless the closure is extended or removed:
- Lobs Hole Ravine Road 4WD trail
- Wallace Creek lookout
- Lobs Hole Ravine campground

Other planned events: Ongoing increased traffic and roadworksThere is an increase in heavy and light vehicle movements on the Snowy Mountains Highway (between Cooma to Tumut) and Link and Tantangara Roads within Kosciuszko National Park. This traffic will continue for a number of years and involves the use of specialised heavy vehicle combinations for transporting materials associated with the Snowy 2.0 project and other projects in the region.
There will also be ongoing maintenance and upgrades to roads in the area as part of the project, particularly along Link and Tantangara Roads.
