Closed areas: Summit Walk beyond Rawson Pass and the summit of Mt.Kosciuszko will be closed on the following dates and times.Helicopter sling load operations are planned to occur from Seamans Hut Helipad to the Summit of Mount Kosciuszko from
7am – 10am AND from
3pm – 6pm on
Monday 11th, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th December 2023 (depending on weather and flying conditions). The helicopter operations are part of the Summit Walk Upgrade Project.
The Summit Walk beyond Rawson Pass (and summit area of Mount Kosciuszko) will be
CLOSED on each of these mornings and afternoons.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 Fox baiting to protect bogong moths
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting its annual ground baiting program from Thursda 23rd of November to Monday the 4th of December 2023. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.
The program will take place in Kosciuszko National Park National Park at a number of remote locations.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Thredbo Valley Track closed due to wet conditionsThredbo Valley track is closed from Thredbo Resort to Gaden Trout Hatchery, including Muzzlewood track, due to wet conditions.

Closed areas: Pilot and Byadbo Wilderness Areas closed for feral animal controlThe NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be undertaking aerial shooting operations in the Pilot and Byadbo Wilderness Areas between Monday 11 December and Friday 22 December 2023.
The Australian Alps Walking Track and the Pilot Wilderness mountain bike ride will remain open for the duration of the program. Trail users must stay on the trail.
Closure notices will be placed at relevant access points into Kosciuszko National Park.

Closed areas: Yellow Bog Creek, Jagumba Range and Black Jack Mountain closed for feral animal controlThe NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be undertaking aerial shooting operations in the Yellow Bog Creek, Jagumba Range and Black Jack Mountain areas between Monday 11 December and Friday 22 December 2023.
Access along the following roads and trails will be closed for the duration of the program:
- Yellow Bog Road
- Ogilvies Dam Road
- Jagumba trail
- Greg Greg trail
- Manjar trail (National trail)
- Black Jack trail (National trail)
Cabramurra Road and adjacent campsites and day use areas will remain open.

Closed areas: Tantangara Reservoir partial closureSome parts of Tantangara Reservoir will be closed intermittently until further notice for Snowy 2.0 construction activities involving controlled blasts. Full exclusion zones will be established prior to and during blast operations. The closed areas are:
- Areas of Tantangara Reservoir adjacent to the Snowy 2.0 construction site.
- Tantangara Reservoir boat ramp, adjacent to the Tantangara Dam wall.

Closed areas: Walking tracks closed for eventThredbo Valley track and surrounding areas will be closed from Thursday 7 December to Saturday 9 December 2023 for an event.
The following tracks are closed from 5.30am to 7.30pm, Thursday 7 December 2023:
- Thredbo Valley track between Thredbo Resort and Bullocks Flat
- Muzzlewood track
- Bullocks walking track
- Bundilla accessible track
The lower Thredbo Valley Track will remain open with access from Gaden Trout Hatchery and Thredbo River picnic area to the Skitube Bridge. There is no access from the Skitube Bridge to Bullocks Flat, Lake Crackenback and the upper Thredbo Valley track.
The following tracks are closed on Friday 8 December 2023:
- Main Range walk between the Summit walk and Blue Lake, from 6.30am to 2pm
- Snowies Alpine walk, Guthega to Charlotte Pass walking track and Illawong walk, from 6.30am to 4.30pm
- Upper Thredbo Valley track, including Muzzlewood track, Bullocks walking track and Bundilla accessible track, from 11am, Friday 8 December to 12am, Saturday 9 December 2023
- Lower Thredbo Valley track, from 5am, Friday 8 December to 12am, Saturday 9 December 2023
The following tracks are closed on Saturday 9 December 2023:
- Upper Thredbo Valley track, including Muzzlewood track, Bullocks walking track and Bundilla accessible track, from 12am to 7pm
- Lower Thredbo Valley track, from 12am to 4pm.

Closed areas: South Glory Cave closedSouth Glory Cave is closed until further notice for safety inspections and monitoring. The South Glory Arch area remains open to the public.
Closed areas: Thredbo River track closedThredbo River track is closed between Thredbo and Dead Horse Gap until further notice while essential work is undertaken. Please obey all signs and directions from NPWS staff.

Other planned events: Track upgrades on Mount Kosciuszko Summit walkSections of Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk are affected by upgrades from Friday 10 November 2023 to mid-April 2024. Expect delays and diversions, and follow signage on tracks.
Repairs will take place on the Charlotte Pass to Rawson Pass section of the walk from November 2023 until further notice. Other sections of the Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk may close for up to a week in February 2024. There will be alternate access to the summit via Kosciuszko walk (from Thredbo) or the Main Range walk (from Charlotte Pass). This alert will be updated with closure dates as they become available.

Safety alerts: Powerline out of service in Jagungal Wilderness AreaHappy Jacks Plain and sections of the Jagungal Wilderness Area are affected by powerline damage. The 11kva powerline that runs through these areas was damaged during the 2019/2020 fires which burnt poles and downed powerlines. It is out of service and will be removed from the park. Please keep a safe distance from any broken wires on the ground and broken stay wires from power poles.

Other planned events: Ongoing 1080 baiting programA baiting program using meat baits and canid pest ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison will be conducted from Wednesday 1 November 2023 to the Wednesday 1 May 2024 in the following parks:
- Bogandyera Nature Reserve
- Jingellic Nature Reserve
- Clarkes Hill Nature Reserve
- Kosciuszko National Park (southern precinct)
Affected areas of the southern precinct of Kosciuszko National Park include:
- Geehi Walls and Major Clews trails
- Indi and Tiger trails
- The Khancoban/Cabramurra Road
- Yellow Bog Road
- Greg Greg trail
- Tooma River trail
- Everards trail
- Spring Flat Creek trail
- Maragle
Entry into baiting locations will be identified by signs.
Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Road/trail closures
The following roads and trails are closed until further notice:
- Geehi Dam/Olsens Road
- Grassy Flat trail
Fire-affected areas
Some sections of Kosciuszko National Park which burnt during the 2019/2020 fires remain closed. These areas include:
- Wolgal and Pattinson's Huts
Huts that burnt down in the 2020 fires
These locations remain open, but the following huts or buildings have been lost:
- Bradley/O'Brien's Hut, Brooks Hut, 4 Mile Hut, Happy's Hut, Harvey's Hut (under repair), Linesman's No.3 Huts, Round Mountain Hut, Vickery's Hut (under repair), and Dry Dam Ski Shelter.
- Warning: Please take care as there may be broken glass/nails that are uncovered since NPWS made records and cleaned up these sites. Please do not disturb the sites or remove artefacts.
Snowy 2.0 works affecting access to Tantangara Road and Tantangara Dam
- Access to the southern end of Tantangara Reservoir via Quarry trail is closed to the public.
- Access to the southern end boat ramp is open, but may be subject to short-term closures.
- Current boating and camping access to Tantangara Reservoir will still be available at access points on the northern end of the reservoir, via Port Phillip and Dam trails.
Do not enter closed areas in Kosciuszko National Park.

Safety alerts: Track works on Dead Horse Gap walk and Thredbo River walkThere will be ongoing track works on Thredbo River track and Dead Horse Gap track throughout the 2023/2024 hiking season. Please follow any detours in place and stay out of work sites.

Closed areas: Closed areas due to Snowy 2.0 worksThe following areas are closed due to the Snowy 2.0 works from Monday 25 February 2019 until early 2027, unless the closure is extended or removed:
- Lobs Hole Ravine Road 4WD trail
- Wallace Creek lookout
- Lobs Hole Ravine campground

Other planned events: Ongoing increased traffic and roadworksThere is an increase in heavy and light vehicle movements on the Snowy Mountains Highway (between Cooma to Tumut) and Link and Tantangara Roads within Kosciuszko National Park. This traffic will continue for a number of years and involves the use of specialised heavy vehicle combinations for transporting materials associated with the Snowy 2.0 project and other projects in the region.
There will also be ongoing maintenance and upgrades to roads in the area as part of the project, particularly along Link and Tantangara Roads.
Your destination is still accessible. To assist in planning your journey safely, please allow extra time in your travel plans and drive to conditions.

Other planned events: High altitude walks - snow coveredThe following high altitude walks are still partially snow covered:
- Main Range walk
- Mt Kosciuszko Summit walk (free of snow for about two thirds of walk)
- Kosciuszko walk
- Mount Stilwell walk
Snow covered walks can be more difficult to follow, slippery, icy and steep. There is also a risk of long falls and slides as you cross slopes. You should be prepared for spring conditions with:
- Solid/waterproof walking boots
- Navigation skills and a map, compass and GPS
- Plan for all walks to take longer than normal.
If you plan to visit these areas in winter, follow
alpine safety advice.

Other planned events: Temporary increase in presence of feral animal carcassesNPWS undertook increased feral animal control operations in the northern section of Kosciuszko National Park over winter, as part of a state-wide focus on reducing the impacts of feral animals on NSW national parks.
As a result, higher than usual numbers of feral animal carcasses are temporarily present in the landscape. NPWS advises that there is an increased chance that visitors may encounter carcasses while driving, walking or riding in the area.
Carcasses are generally left in the landscape during most widescale feral animal control operations. They do not pose a risk to the environment.
Carcasses do not pose a health or safety risk to visitors if left undisturbed.
Other planned events: Notice of ongoing 1080 programA baiting program using meat baits and canid pest ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison will be conducted from Friday 22 September 2023 until Friday 22 March 2024 in Kosciuszko National Park.
The program will be conducted in the northern precinct of the park, which includes the following areas:

The program will be continuous and ongoing between Tuesday 28 February 2023 and Sunday 31 December 2023, and will use meat baits and canid pest ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.
All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.
Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserve. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs in the vicinity must be restrained or muzzled and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

These programs are part of an integrated pest animal control strategy, aimed at minimising the impacts of these animals on neighbouring stock.
Baiting programs will be conducted in Thredbo/Ingebyra, Dalgety/Paupong and Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah Wild Dog Plan Areas. Baiting programs will also be undertaken in Paupong, Merriangaah and Quidong Nature Reserves.
This includes the following sections of Kosciuszko National Park:

- Moonbah
- Ingebyra
- Paupong
- Numbla Vale
- Corrowong
All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.
