Sydney Christian Bushwalkers

formerly known as Scripture Union Bushwalkers

A member of The Confederation of Bushwalking Clubs NSW Inc

www.bushwalking.org.au

History

The association was founded in June 1974 and adopted the name Scripture Union Bushwalkers because the

founders were members of Scripture Union (NSW) who enjoyed bushwalking together.

Around August 1982 the association became an affiliated member of The NSW Federation of Bushwalking Clubs.

In early December 1989 The Federation was replaced by The Confederation of Bushwalking Clubs NSW Inc

and in October 1995 Scripture Union Bushwalkers became an affiliated member of The Confederation.

On 2 December 2008 the membership of Scripture Union Bushwalkers decided to change the name of the

association to Sydney Christian Bushwalkers.

Objects

Sydney Christian Bushwalkers has 3 objects:

1.     To provide opportunities for people of all ages to participate in bushwalking and related outdoor and

         social activities.

2.     To promote fellowship amongst Christian bushwalkers.

3.     To promote friendship with all bushwalkers.

Activities

Bushwalks and other outdoor activities are organised throughout the year and are graded from an experienced

bushwalker’s viewpoint in accordance with the grade descriptions below.

Very Easy:     Distance up to 10km - Suitable for those with low fitness or reduced walking ability.

The route follows constructed paths, possibly in an urban setting, with occasional

ascents/descents being on ramps or steps.

Easy:                Distance up to 10km - Average fitness required.

The route follows well marked tracks but may include several short steep sections.

Medium:         Distance up to 20 km - Reasonable level of fitness required.

Possibly some walking in trackless bushland, steep ascents/descents.

Hard:                20-30km in distance - Good fitness required.

Thick scrub, steep terrain and boulder hopping may be encountered.

Lilo trips are organised down creeks or through canyons during the summer and the occasional caving trip is

also organised for those interested in underground exercise. Social activities are also organised from time to time.

If you are interested in finding out more then why not come on a bushwalk or other outdoor activity as a visitor.

Visitors are welcome on up to 3 outdoor activities per financial year and are covered by both our personal accident

and public liability insurance policies.

Please note that both members and visitors are required to sign an activity risk waiver form prior to participating

in any outdoor activity. However, there is no need to sign a risk waiver in relation to a purely social activity.

Children are also welcome to attend suitable activities provided they are under the care of a responsible adult.

The responsible adult must also sign risk waivers on behalf of the child prior to any outdoor activity.

In order to minimise our impact on the environment we expect all participants to abide by the Bushwalkers Code

whilst they are participating in any outdoor activity.
