Bouddi National Park is south east of Woy Woy and encompasses the Box Head headland. Bouddi NP has numerous secluded beaches and some great surf beaches too. The park also offers fantastic coastal walking with views out from the tall headlands over Broken Bay, Woy Woy and the South Pacific Ocean. Bouddi NP also boasts one of the first marine extensions in NSW, with a 300ha protection zone out of Maitland Bay for the marine life. The mosquitoes in Bouddi NP can be fierce so it might be an idea to pack insect repellent.
Some people walk in along the beach from Putty beach, but this can be very dangerous depending upon the tide or waves. it is about 1.5km walk.
The other track is from The car park at the end of Hawke Head Drive (dirt road). From the gate it is about 1.5km walk along service trails (turning left at each intersection with another wide service trail)
This walk here describes a longer walk, but might be helpful for getting in.

A cliff is behind the camp spot and the car park is up on top of it.
The dirt track is actually about 1.2km to walk down around the side and down to the camp spot. It's all downhill from the car to the camp spot.
The beach is only about 30 metres from the camp spot, on a small path through some scrub.
There is no creek at all, and no tree to pitch a tent under, just next to, so tents get hot early in summer.
There are some bushwalks in the area but it's fun just to hang out on the near-deserted beach.
Not many drunk, ghetto-blasting bogans go here (as they can't bring their V12s in to park next to the tent), it's normally nice, quiet, placid campers.
Just wondering if contained wood fires are allowed for cooking at tallow beach camping area. I really feel that sitting around a fire, and building it really makes the trip worthwhile. If not, is it generally a policy that national parks have?

Thanks for the question. Fires are not permitted at Tallow Beach - you will need to bring a fuel stove for cooking. I know that there is great value in sitting around a fire, but fires do come at a cost to the environment. NPWS do allow fires in some parks. You can look though the campsite summary list to find campsite where fires are permitted. I am not aware of any general policies on fires. It is not a good as a fire, but consider taking a candle if you choose Tallow Beach.

Hi, I was just wondering if it is possible to camp ON tallow beach itself. From what I've gathered you can only camp at the grassy campsite. It's a shame you cant light a campfire to.

Hi Michael, Camping is permitted (only) in the grassy camping area, which is very close to the beach. I am not aware of an age restriction, when you phone to book, just double check then.

Be careful when driving down the unsealed road just before the gate. There are about 5 drainage mounds in the road that can scrape and could rip the exhaust out of you're car if you hit them to fast!
