This walk, from Garie Beach to Eagle Rock, is another great way to explore the Royal National Park coastline. Eagle Rock is an iconic rock formation in the park, and this lookout provides a great view of it. The walk then returns to the expansive Garie Beach, offering more great views as you head down the hill. Enjoy the beach before jumping back in the car.
Please note: This is a 'return' style walk and therefore these graphs only show the terrain for the first half of the walk (until the turn around point.)

Eagles Rock Lookout Track: Moderate - bushtrack
Length = 2.67 km
Time = 57 mins
Climb = 68 m
Descent = -137 m
From the clearing at the top of the large hill, this walk follows the bush track heading away from Garie Beach and through the high scrub, continuing along for a while before coming to the signposted intersection of the 'Curra Moors car park' track. From the intersection, this walk heads along the narrow trail through the scrub, keeping the ocean on the right of the track. In various sections, metal walkways have been built to stabilise the environment in the area. The walk continues like this, occasionally breaking out onto the rockshelf of the cliffs, until reaching a signposted intersection, marked 'Wattamolla 2.9km'. Keeping the ocean to the right the track follows the bushtrack through the scrub and along the coast for a short while before coming to the information signpost with views of Eagle Rock.
Eagle Rock Lookout
Alt = 33 m
Eagle Rock lookout is an informal lookout marked by an information sign on the Coast track in the Royal National Park. The lookout is about halfway between Garie Beach and Wattamolla. Eagle rock is a piece of the cliff line that looks amazingly like the head of an eagle, with the eye and all. The lookout is about 150m west of the Eagle Rock on the other side of Carracurrong Creek. Eagle Rock is often used as an icon for the Royal National Park. Carracurrong Creek also forms a waterfall into the ocean nearby.
Fire Danger This walk passes Greater Sydney Region fire area which currently has a LOW-MODERATE rating and No Ban in place. (Checked 17 minutes ago) Please Note: Each park may have its own fire ban status, this rating is based on information from the RFS and BOM.
Not sure i'd do this again -- there's just not enough variety in the terrain (when you compare it to the previous sections of the track --- ie, otford to north era). Once you get up the first hill and the track flattens off, the terrain/vegetation doesnt change at all until you get to the cascades (which is a lovely spot for brunch before turning back). In my opinion, this walk would be great if you were doing it as part of a longer walk, but as a stand-alone trip, well, it's not all that engaging. Be aware that there isnt any shade on the top of the hill, so try to do your walk at a cooler time of day. A swim at garie beach afterwards is mandatory (and very, very delightful!) It's a nice walk, overall, but probably more fun if you continue right the way thru to watamolla.
