Heathcote National Park
Track: Moderate
A circuit around Lake Talooma largely upon servicetrails this walk has few views of the Lake. That does not mean that it is totally disappointing as the views from the western ridgetop are as good as any that Heathcote National Park has to offer.
Bushwalking can be fun and interesting when you are well prepared. Please ensure you and your group are well prepared and equipped for all possible dangers. The authors, staff and owners of wildwalks take care in preparing these notes but do not accept responsibility for any inconvenience, loss or injury sustained when using these notes. Please take care and feel free to provide feedback through our website. Please note that side trips and alternate routes mentioned in these notes are not included in the tracks overall rating, distance or time estimate. The notes also only describe the side trip and alternate routes in one direction.
You can promote your organisation on the web and in the bush by sponsoring a set of Wildwalks tracknotes. Sponsorship starts from $10 per/month. This program is unique and will offer a great return on your investment.
(0 km) End of Warabin Rd to Int of Waterfall Gully and Lake Toolooma Servicetrail (East) Track: Moderate - servicetrail, bushtrack
Distance = 0.4 km
Time = 10 mins
Climb = 1 m
Descent = -56 m
From the end of Warabin St the track passes the large boom gate and the sign saying 'Bullawaring Track - Heathcote National Park' and heads west along the servicetrail until coming to an intersection with a bushtrack going down a set of stairs to the left. This is signposted as part of the Bullawaring Track.
From the intersection the track heads east down the hill along the stairs. Towards the bottom this changes slightly to being a bushtrack until coming to an intersection with a servicetrail. At this point the track heads further downhill along the servicetrail until the bottom where it turns slightly to the south, flattens out and goes for about 30m before coming to an intersection with a bushtrack going downhill to the right.

Int of Waterfall Gully Track and Lake Toolooma Servicetrail (East) to Coutts Creek Scout Facility Track: Moderate - Service Trail
Distance = 1.7 km
Time = 25 mins
Climb = 35 m
Descent = -49 m
From the intersection the track heads south along the servicetrail. After several hundred metres the track begins to go by a large lake. Unfortunately, due to the positioning of the servicetrail and the vegetation surrounding the track it is difficult to get a good look of the lake. The track continues south with several small ups and downs until coming to an intersection with a servicetrail heading up the hill. At this point there is a small clearing that is used as a carpark. From the intersection the track heads south along the lower flat servicetrail. This goes for several hundred metres until breaking out into a large clearing. To the left hand side are the large gates of the Scouts Australia Camp Coutts Facility. The track goes onto the gravel road through the camp. Approximately halfway through the camp the track comes to several intersections that cross Heathcote Creek however these are not proper tracks as they only head across to other campsites. These are at the main buildings of the camp ground.
(2.03 km) Coutts Creek Scout Facility to Int of Coutts Creek Servicetrail and Lake Toolooma Servicetrail Track: Moderate - Service Trail
Distance = 0.4 km
Time = 5 mins
Climb = 10 m
Descent = -7 m
From the main buildingings of the Coutts Creek Scout Facility the track heads south through the Scout Campsites and out the other end. Approximately 250m out of the proper camp and in the smaller camps the track turns off to the right the track comes to an intersection with a servicetrail that crosses Heathcote Creek to the west. The track turns off and heads down and across the creek, going slightly up the other bank before coming to an intersection with another servicetrail.
(2.44 km) Int of Coutts Creek Servicetrail and Lake Toolooma Servicetrail to Int of Waterfall Gully and Lake Toolooma Servicetrail (west) Track: Moderate - servicetrail, bushtrack
Distance = 2.1 km
Time = 40 mins
Climb = 64 m
Descent = -85 m
From the intersection the track zig-zags steeply up the hill to the north along the servicetrail until reaching the ridgeline, During most of this section the track follows underneath the powerlines. Once reaching the ridge there are some great views over the valley. Accompanying this there is an old track that should have come from the scout hall however this is no longer in use. Up on the ridge the track continues north for a short section before passing a large green boomgate. Continueing past this the track begins to gradually descend down off the ridge until reaching an intersection with a bushtrack going off to the right. Just to the north is a smll creek that is a tributary of Heathcote Creek and Waterfall Gully. From the intersection the track heads north and crosses the creek and heads along the servicetrail for a very short period before coming to an intersection with a bushtrack going off to the right.
(4.55 km) Int of Waterfall Gully and Lake Toolooma Servicetrail (west) to Int of Waterfall Gully and Lake Toolooma Servicetrail (East) Track: Moderate - Bush Track
Distance = 0.3 km
Time = 5 mins
Climb = 31 m
Descent = -3 m
From the intersection the track heads south-east following the narrow though clear track for several hundred metres until turning slightly to the north (left) and heading up the hill to an intersection with a servicetrail. Just before the track goes uphill there is another track that turns sharply left and goes up. This is not the official use of it and it is quite apparent that it is under erosion forces from walkers and natural weather.
bushtrack, servicetrail Waterfall Station
From the intersection the track heads around slightly to the north before turning and heading steeply up to the east along the servicetrail. This climbs steeply until coming to an intersection with a bushtrack and a set of stairs going off to the right whereas the servicetrail continues on. The track heads up the stairs until reaching the top of the hill where the track intersects with a servicetrail. This intersection is marked with a sign saying Bullawaring Track. From the intersection the track heads east along the servicetrail until coming to an intersection with the end of Warabin St where there are several large signposts saying Bullarwaring Track- Heathcote National Park.
