Following the service trails, this track covers most of the major walking tracks on Botany Bay's south side. Thick eucalypts and ferns surround the trail and there are great views at the Yena Picnic Area - a good place to break but lacking shade. If you have time when going to the Discovery Centre, this track is a nice way to explore a fair bit of the park.

Bushwalking can be fun and interesting when you are well prepared. Please ensure you and your group are well prepared and equipped for all possible dangers. The authors, staff and owners of wildwalks take care in preparing these notes but do not accept responsibility for any inconvenience, loss or injury sustained when using these notes. Please take care and feel free to provide feedback through our website.
Please note that side trips and alternate routes mentioned in these notes are not included in the tracks overall rating, distance or time estimate. The notes also only describe the side trip and alternate routes in one direction.

(0 km) Botany Bay Discovery Centre to North end of Banks Solander Track
Walk: Easy - Bush Track
Distance = 0.2 km Time = 4 mins
Climb = 3 m Descent = -1 m
From the discovery centre this track heads south out of the carpark along the track leading to Banks-Solander Tack (signposted “ Banks-Solander Tack”). This track follows a shady bushtrail through the ferns along a half track half boardwalk trail until coming to n intersection with a road signposted as Solander Drive. Although this is classed as wheelchair accessible by national parks the trail is not hardened and is rough in places.
From the intersection with the road this track heads south along the servicetrail for a little while before coming to a intersection with a bushtrack off to the left of the servicerail.

(0.22 km) North end of Banks Solander Track to South end of Banks Solander Track
Walk: Easy - Bush Track
Distance = 0.3 km Time = 5 mins
Climb = 8 m Descent = -5 m
From the intersection the track heads east along the bushtrack, the Banks Solander Track. The track soon turns to the right and heads south. On the way this track goes through a shady woodland and ferns forest until emerging onto a servicetrail. Although signs class this track as wheelchair accessible the bushtrack sections are not hardened. Approximately halfway along this section there is a very large fern that is of interest.

(0.53 km) South end of Banks Solander Track to South end of Yena Picnic Area Rd
Walk: Easy - Service Trail
Distance = 0.8 km Time = 10 mins
Climb = 14 m Descent = -8 m
From the intersection with the bushtrack the trail heads south along the gravelly servicetrail until coming to an intersection with a bushtrack going off to the left.
From the intersection the track follows the main service trail to the south east through the open ferny forest, soon the Yena service trail meets the radar track off to the right
From the intersection the track heads south-east along the servicetrail. This continues until reaching Solander Rd and a large sign saying Yena Servicetrail. During this section of track the trail passes through large sections of ferns and eucalypts.

(1.32 km) South end of Yena Picnic Area Rd to North end of Yena Picnic Area Rd
Track: Moderate - road
Distance = 0.6 km Time = 10 mins
Climb = 18 m Descent = -12 m
From the intersection the track heads east down the gravel road towards the coastline. Gradually this curves around to the north before coming to the Yena Picnic Area. Passing the picnic area the track curves round and heads up the gravel road to the north-west. Although this section of the track is classified as wheelchair accessible due to it being along a road the asphalt is extremely pitted and bumpy. Once at the cliff there is the Yena Picnic which consists of a small picnic area. Unfortunately there are no shaded areas. This is compensated however by the good lookouts over the South Pacific Ocean

(1.9 km) North end of Yena Picnic Area Rd to Int of Muru Track and Cape Solander Drive
Walk: Easy - road
Distance = 0.1 km Time = 1 mins
Climb = 0 m Descent = 0 m
From the intersection the track heads north down Cape Solander Drive for approximately 100m until coming to an intersection with a servicetrail going off to the left. This is blocked to vehicles by a large boom gate.

(1.99 km) Int of Muru Track and Cape Solander Drive to Int of Muru Track and Houston Lookout track
Walk: Easy - Service Trail
Distance = 0.4 km Time = 5 mins
Climb = 8 m Descent = 0 m
From Cape Solander Drive the track passes the large boom gate and heads north-west along the servicetrail until reaching an intersection with a bushtrack heading off to the south-west (left)
From the intersection the track heads north-west along the servicetrail for approximately 50m until coming to an intersection with a bushtrack heading off to the north (right).

(2.43 km) Int of Muru Track and Houston Lookout track to Houston Lookout
Optional Side Trip: Track: Moderate - Bush Track
Distance = 0.3 km Time = 5 mins
Climb = 10 m Descent = -10 m
From the intersection the track heads north along the highly overgrown servicetrail. This continues until becoming purely overgrown. During sections of this trip there are some good views out over the bay area and the national park however these are shrouded by the nearby trees and ferns.

(2.43 km) Int of Muru Track and Houston Lookout track to Int of Solander Rd and Muru Track
Walk: Easy - Service Trail
Distance = 0.3 km Time = 5 mins
Climb = 1 m Descent = -21 m
From the intersection the track heads west gently down hill along the sandy servicetrail until coming to an intersection with a bushtrack going off to the left.
From the intersection the track heads down north-west along the service trail until coming tot he road Solander Rd. During this section the track is a wide gravelly servicetrail with dense ferns on either side.

(2.69 km) Int of Solander Rd and Muru Track to Carpark
Walk: Easy - Service Trail
Distance = 0.1 km Time = 1 mins
Climb = 0 m Descent = -3 m
From the road the track heads north-west along the old road, now servicetrail. This goes for a short period before pass over a small bridge. Just beyond this the track opens out onto the Botany Bay Discovery Centre Carpark. The discovery centre is just to the right.
